Robotics Startup with a Manager-less and Division-less Structure Using LeSS
This is a story of GROOVE X, a robotics startup that created robots as innovative as its organizational structure and policies. GROOVE X’s Founder, CEO, and Product Owner, Hayashi, believes that the traditional managers can hinder innovation due to hierarchical constraints and the expectations tied to the managers unless the managers are aware of this and handle it exceptionally well. He also sees that organizational divisions create separation, making it harder for teams to collaborate and learn from one another, ultimately stifling innovation.
To address these challenges—and to avoid potential chaos in a flat structure—GROOVE X adopted LeSS (Large-Scale Scrum), empowering the entire product group to self-manage and rapidly adapt product strategies to an ever-changing market.
