Developing Developers

More and more companies are realizing that software plays a significant role in their business. And everybody is trying to hire developers, preferably Rockstars(tm). Since those are rare and already employed by FANGs, hiring graduates from "Become and AI expert in 3 months" bootcamps (read cheap) to solve domain specific software problems is the next best option. What could possibly go wrong? Universities also seem to be perpetually stuck 10-15 years behind what today is considered modern software development.

In this talk Ivan will share his own journey as a developer, how long it takes when doing it alone vs learning from masters, a few things he has tried as a technical coach in a large organization, and lessons learned from running weekly public practical coding sessions for 1 year.
